The Coup We Are Not Talking About
We can have democracy, or we can have a surveillance society, but we cannot have both.

There is so much to unpack here but the first thing that comes to mind after reading this is : disgust, shame and outright criminal behavior against humanity.

Restricting access to democracy : at least now the GOP is aligned with what it has always been.
https://www.nytimes.com/live/2021/03/19/us/biden-news-today/in-restricting-early-voting-the-right-se…And what’s also very clear is that the USA is not a functioning democracy anymore. And yes 8t started before Trump, the later only amplified an existing trend : minority ruling against the majority.

Using Android focus mode, all the time now, meaning it is set for the entire day, and I decide when to take a break from focus mode for a determined amount of minutes a few times a day.
My numbers of unlock/notifications have dropped from several thousands a day to a few dozens per day, when I choose to be distracted.
I’m liking this reverse mode a lot, feeling better overall, less polluted by constant incoming news and notifications, curious to what’s going to be the benefits over a longer period of time… -

"in uncertain times, societies see a rise of “occultures,” meaning “groups of people who are attracted to strange occult and esoteric ideas, mixing them in unforeseen ways with political movements.”
